Tyvek

As a part of an installation at Ivy Tech John Waldron Art Center in Bloomington, Indiana, "life Matrix" is made of 125 pieces of origami puffs. Each origami puff is folded from one piece of uncut Tyvek using the same patterns similar to DNA double helix and pleated sheet that are found in hydrogen bond interactions among strands of amino acid. Yet each orgami puff is formed uniquely. Scientist has discovered the unique function of a protein is determined by how it folds and self-assembles. Could the hidden relationships between spatial characteristic of a subject, namely the tectonics, visual, and tactile qualities, and its functionality, be revealed in the forms, patterns, and logics of the folds?
